South Worcestershire College Student Wins at UK Skills Regional Heats
South Worcestershire College Beauty Therapy student, Sarah Holehouse, is the proud winner at this year’s Level 2 regional heats of the UK Skills competition.
Sarah, who is based at the College’s Malvern campus, competed at the event, held in Wales, against 13 other students from across the region. During the competition she was asked to demonstrate a half leg wax, a manicure, a facial and day makeup, to the three competition judges.
Each competitor was judged and awarded marks for client care, deportment, hygiene and organisational skills.
“Sarah has worked really hard in preparation for the competition. Her work is outstanding and Sarah thoroughly deserved to be taking part in such a high level competition” said Course Manager for the Level 2 Beauty Therapy course, Tracey Hobson. “To come first in the regional heats is absolutely what Sarah deserves. She is an excellent example of the high standard of students that are trained in the Beauty Therapy salons at the College.”
“Preparing for the event and then competing against the other colleges was a really good experience” said Sarah. “It was really interesting to see the standard of students from other colleges in the region.”
Level 3 Beauty Therapy student Jenny Alldridge was also selected to compete at the competition. As a higher level student Jenny was entered into the advanced heats.
“Jenny remained very calm in what is a very demanding situation involving not only demonstrating advanced treatments but also answering in-depth question about the treatments she was giving” said Level 3 Beauty Course Manager, Sarah Martin.
“Jenny received excellent and very well deserved feedback from the judges”.
Following the regional heats the winners from each heat will have their scores totalled up to form a league table. The top 10 competitors will then move on to the national heat which is to be held in Derby in June of this year.
