College receives satisfactory OFSTED report

South Worcestershire College has received confirmation of its overall Satisfactory grade 3 from OFSTED regarding the Inspection which took place from 25-29 January 2010.

Whilst this is very disappointing, the College would like to stress that it remains committed to providing the highest quality of education to the local Community and will continue to look for ways in which it can improve.

The College was already aware of the issues identified by the Inspectors and the Principalship were already in the process of addressing these. This series of actions included the appointment of a Vice Principal for Learning and Performance in August 2009 who is responsible for all aspects of the quality of the learner's experience whilst at South Worcestershire College. She is tasked with ensuring we offer the highest quality teaching and success to our learners.

South Worcestershire College also received many Good (Grade 2) grades for specialist areas such as: the Engineering curriculum areas which includes, motor vehicle, mechanical engineering and land-based service engineering; Provision for 14-16 year Old Learners; Employer Responsive provision; Learners feel safe; Providing a Positive Contribution to their Community; Meeting the needs and interests of the Learners; Partnerships; Safeguarding Learners; and Engaging with Learners to promote improvement.

The Inspectors also found that the College's provision for Learners with learning difficulties or disabilities and for Learners who require additional specialist care, such as those with acquired brain injuries, was very good.

Michael O'Brien said 'I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff for their immense personal commitment and hard work during the past few months. They are commited to making these improvements that will benefit all of our Learners and I am proud of what we have all achieved so far.'
