College Champions Entrepreneurs

Peter Luff MP and Paul Vellen of Johnson Vellen Total Vehicle Solutions have joined the College in signing up with the Federation of Small Businesses as champions of entrepreneurialism.

“Many of our full-time courses provide our students with the skills needed to start up a business and signing a formal agreement with the FSB demonstrates the College’s continued commitment to encouraging entrepreneurialism” said College Principal Michael O’Brien.

Signing of FSB agreementOne Beauty Therapy student from the College who has put her entrepreneurial skills, learnt on the Level 3 course, to good use is Lucy Howson.

Lucy, 34, successfully started up her mobile beauty business, Vanilla Moon in July last year. Then in January she was offered the opportunity by local business woman Nic Nash to share her business premises in Offenham with a view to opening up a beauty salon, alongside the existing hair salon.

“I wanted to get the beauty salon side of the business off the ground fairly quickly so I have been distributing fliers to homes in the area, developing my internet presence, and shortly I will be launching a new website. The business is growing constantly; I have a new monthly skin clinic starting shortly offering treatments such as botox and fillers, and in March I will be introducing Reiki to the salon.

I have always wanted to start my own business and because the Level 3 Beauty Therapy course at the College covers topics such as salon management it provided me with the skills required to run a thriving salon."
