Beauty Therapy Students are Placed at UK Skills for the 2nd Year

Following a succession of gruelling internal heats Level 2 student Sarah Richardson and Level 3 student Sarah May Higley were chosen to represent the college at UK Skills Midlands Heat at the NEC on Sunday 25th April.

After packing up the college mini bus with all equipment and products required for the competition we were on our way at 7.30am for registration at 8.30am.

Both girls were expected to set up their work stations and attend a Health and safety briefing by 9.15am and from the moment they entered the competition area were no longer allowed to communicate with their lecturers or their models.

The Beauty Therapy Teaching team watched from afar as both candidates competed against 13 other colleges within the midlands to be placed within this prestigious competition.

Each student performed 3 treatments appropriate to their course of study whilst being judged on their posture, dexterity and general professionalism with Sarah May being asked a series of underpinning knowledge questions.

We were delighted to gain fabulous feed back for both competitors reiterating what we already know that our standard of training is extremely high although the real stars were of course the students!!

Compliments received by the judges were:

  • "Your posture was immaculate throughout"
  • "The dexterity in your treatments was like music to judges ears"
  • "Your massage was of an exceptional standard"
  • "You have had an amazing competition today"
  • "There is always somebody in a competition that your eye is drawn to and you were that person for me"
  • "I particularly liked your facial massage it really was excellent"
  • "You are an extremely tidy worker and you must carry on with competition work from here on in"

At 5.15pm it was announced that Sarah Richardson had gained a 3rd placing for the intermediate level securing yet another huge achievement for the Colleges Beauty Therapy Department.

We would like to congratulate both Girls on this huge achievement and thank them for representing the College so beautifully we are so proud of both of them.
