American Footballer Dreams Come True

A Sports student from South Worcestershire College has been selected to play for the Great Britain American Football squad.

Sam Steward who is currently studying on the two year National Certificate in Sport programme at the College has fought off strong competition from 170 hopefuls, and has earned himself one of the 45 places in the squad.

For the squad’s first game they will be travelling to a game in Utrect in Holland, a game that they need to win to move through the group stages later in the year, leading to the main championship which will be held in Spain in 2011.

“This is my first year of playing for the Birmingham Bulls senior team. As I am 18 I am now eligible to play senior football for the British American Football Association (BAFA) and also continue to play for the Great Britain Lions Youth Team” said Sam.

“Sam has always been very focused on his ambition to work within the world of American Football and his college course has been an excellent first step in the right direction for him” said the College’s Sport Course Manager, Lee Perry. “Sam has now been awarded a scholarship to go to college in America, and is currently looking at colleges where he can both study for a degree in physiotherapy and also compete in American Football as part of his studies.”

“After university my goal is to either become a high level American Football player or to work as a physiotherapist alongside an American Football team” said Sam.
