ABI Centre Future is looking brighter - update Release

THE future of Evesham Acquired Brain Injury Unit appears to be more positive as discussions with the Government over its funding moved forward at a meeting held yesterday (Thursday 4th March).

The Aquired Brain Injury centre, which is part of South Worcestershire College, looked likely to close after the Government announced in February that it was making a £200m cut to adult learner budgets across the country. This forced the College, based in Davies Road, to slash its adult learner budget and withdraw funding for the unit.

However, following discussions with the Government yesterday, the College received clarity on some issues which had still threatened the future of the Unit.

Principal, Michael O'Brien said, 'The meeting with the LSC had provided largely positive news for the College and the Unit, as the LSC had stated that they would restrict the amount of funding cuts to be imposed. This still leaves a shortfall of £43,000, but we will continue to investigate all sources of additional funding to bridge this.'
