What are the employer benefits and opportunities?

To train a student or employee to a national standard in a specified vocational area and learn your company’s working practices.

What qualifications will my student/employee need to have?

There are no fixed requirements, but you may wish to specify that certain qualifications such as GCSE Maths and/or English are necessary, dependant on the Apprenticeship to be undertaken.

How long does an Apprenticeship take?

There is no set time for a student/employee to complete an Apprenticeship, as they vary widely in content and size. An Apprenticeship will usually take anything from 12 to 24 months.

Where will the Apprenticeship take place?

Your student/employee will work four days a week within your company and attend College for one day each week.

Do I pay the student a salary?

If the student is employed by you then you will pay them a salary.

How are individuals assessed prior to starting an Apprenticeship?

Each student will be interviewed as part of the College application procedure.

What qualifications will my student/employee gain?

On successful completion of the Apprenticeship your student/employee will train to NVQ Level 2 and NVQ Level 3 including Key Skills and Technical Certificates in most occupational areas.

How do NVQs relate to other qualifications?

  • NVQ LEVEL 2 = 5 GCSEs at grades A-C
  • NVQ LEVEL 3 = 2 A Levels/1 Vocational A level
  • NVQ LEVEL 4/5 = HNC, HND and degree level.
