To help you find out more about the Lifestyle academy, we've had a chat with Joanne Hobbs, the head of the academy, to find out what the academy can offer prospective students.
What subjects does your academy cover?
Beauty Therapy
On the level 2 programme students will cover a wide variety of subjects including facials, facial massage eye treatments manicure and pedicure and waxing techniques.
On the level 3 programme they will cover facial electrical treatments, figure diagnosis, body massage, Indian head massage and electrolysis.
Hairdressing
During level 1 and 2 hairdressing a large proportion of the course is spent in the up-to-date salons, where you will learn and develop practical skills to a high professional standard.
During level 3 hairdressing the students will be doing advanced long hair techniques, colouring and cutting skills with the opportunity of organising a promotional event.
Sports
Sports courses consists of formal lectures, workshops, fitness assessments, practical activities and trips, and there will be the building of a portfolio.
Travel and Tourism
Our Travel and Tourism courses cover a wide and diverse cross section of subjects that will help you decide in which sector you wish to work.
Subjects studied include Cabin Crew, the Cruise Industry, Tour Operating, Customer Service and Marketing to name a few.
Students also get hands on experience of the Retail sector by training in our ABTA bonded travel agency.
Tell us a bit about your academy's industry within the local area?
Within the academy we're linked to industry by our students doing work placements throughout their course. For example travel and tourism students go to travel agents. The sports students do some work with the forces.
We have guest speakers to talk to the entire academy from Steiner where there are jobs available for across the academy. The hair and beauty students go to salons and SPAS with many gaining employment from these at the end of their course.
