This course is ideal for both school leavers who are looking for a career with animals, and also for those already employed in the animal industry and who wish to develop management skills.

What qualifications do I need?
- You will need a broad education and preferably five GCSEs grade A* - C (one of which should be a academic subject - preferably English) or a Level 2 Animal Care qualification at Merit Level plus Functional Skill Level 1 in English
- All applicants will need to have a successful interview
- All applicants must be able to provide a reference
What's involved?
Subjects covered on this course will include:
- Animal health, biology, anatomy and physiology
- The principles of nutrition and animal feeding
- Animal behaviour and communcations
- Dog grooming, animal welfare and breed development
- General animal accommodation, safe handling and farm livestock
How will I be studying?
Students will be assessed through individual assignment work which will be a mixture of monitoring reports, posters, presentations and essay style reports. You will attend a work placement and work on an assignment linked to that placement. Class work will be a mixture of group work and discussions alongside independent research and assignment writing. Practical work with the College animals will be part of the days work plus working trips to outside animal organisations.
You will also be expected to complete one Functional Skill each year linked to the course work where possible.
Where can I move on to after this course?
Students can progress into employment or continue their studies on a Higher Education course.
