BTEC Introductory Diploma in Land Based Studies Level 1

Available at: Evesham Campus. Length: 1 Year.

This course provides a stepping stone for those who want to work with animals. It is ideal for those students with limited practical experience and would like to learn about a broad range of animals and is suitable for a wide range of students in terms of age, ability and circumstances.

What qualifications do I need?

Enjoy working with animals including horses and farm animals
Be willing to complete practical tasks both inside and outside
All applicants will need to have a successful interview
All applicants must be able to provide a reference

What's involved?

Animal feeding, accommodation, moving and handling
Animal health and health and safety
Practical work with small animals, horses and farm animals
Attend a work placement
You will also study Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT as well as Personal and Social Development

How will I be studying?

You will complete assignment work to cover the assessment criteria along with practical assessments. As part of your course work you will also complete projects, posters and presentations.

You will attend a work placement for one day a week and evidence of this wil be required for your qualification.

Trips to local farms and stables will make up a substantial part of the course so that working with these animals can be experienced and evidence used for your course work.

Where can I move on to after this course?

Upon successful completion of the course, where you have demonstrated a strong commitment and capability in your course work and placement, and following a successful interview, you can progress on to the Level 2 qualification.
