Hairdressing Apprenticeship Level 2

Available at: Evesham Campus. Malvern Campus. Length: 1 year to 18 months.

This Apprenticeship is designed for young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who are currently employed in a hairdressing salon, who wish to gain a formal qualification in order for them to progress within the industry.

What are the entry requirements?

  • There are no formal entry requirements but you need to demonstrate a good level of English and effective communication skills
  • You need to have a placement in a salon
  • You will need to have a successful interview

What does the Apprenticeship cover?

You will attend College for half/full day each week to study theory and Functional Skills and you will spend the reainder of the week in the salon.

Subjects covered during this programme will include:

  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Cut hair using basic techniques
  • Change hair colour using basic techniques
  • Health and Safety
  • Employment rights and responsibilities
  • Personal learning and thinking skills

How long does it take?

The Level 2 Hairdressing qualification would normally take between 12 to 18  months to complete dependant on the level of work put in by the candidate. 

How is it assessed?

The scheme is work based and involves proving competence through regular visits and assessments by an appointed Instructor/Assessor. 

What will I achieve and where do I go next?

On successful completion of the programme you will achieve a Level 2 NVQ in Hairdressing after which you could go on to achieve the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.  You will also achieve Level 1 Numeracy and Literacy qualifications.

What are the costs involved?

Learners over the age of 19 may be required to pay a fee; this is dependant upon prior qualifications obtained.
