The scheme is aimed at young people between the ages of 16-24 who want to develop plumbing skills and progress to become a domestic heating engineer.

What are the entry requirements?
You need to have three GCSE subjects grades A - C in Maths, English and Science.
What does the Apprenticeship cover?
During your course you will attend College one day each week and you will undertake both theory and practical exercises.
The practical training will involve the following:
• Installation of radiators
• Installation of boilers
• Installation of hot water systems
• Installation of control systems
• Installation of cold water systems using copper, steel and plastic
The theory training will involve the following:
• Central heating design, installation and maintenance
• Hot and cold water systems design, installation and maintenance
• Heating system controls
• Gas and oil awareness
• Principles of electricity
• Material and processes selection
How long does it take?
A Level 2 NVQ in Plumbing and Heating would normally take about 2 years to complete dependant on the level of work put in by the candidate.
How is it assessed?
Assessment is ongoing with practical assessments and online tests.
What will I achieve and where do I go next?
On successful completion you will achieve the City and Guilds 6189 Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating. Apprentices can then advance onto a Level 3 qualification in gas or oil which will meet the requirements of either Gas Safe or Oftec registration.
What are the costs involved?
Learners over the age of 19 may be required to pay a fee; this is dependant upon prior qualifications obtained.
