This is a general computing course aimed at students who want to become skilled and knowledgeable in a wide range of computing applications and hardware. The course is designed flexibly to accommodate students who already have some previous knowledge and those relatively new to the subject area.

This course, formerly known as CMAP, is aimed at students who want to become skilled and knowledgeable in a wide range of computing applications, media and hardware.
What qualifications do I need?
You will need four GCSEs at Grade D (or above) or a relevant Level 1 qualification. You would be expected to possess good numeracy and communication skills and demonstrate a commitment to working in this subject. The course is intended for those with determination to complete and progress.
What's involved?
The course is split into theory, software applications and hardware practicals. The main units of study are:
- Communicating and working in the industry
- Computer graphics
- Computer systems and hardware
- Developing computing games
- Designing websites
- You will also study one Functional Skill
How will I be studying?
The course is taught through lectures, practical exercises and online learning materials. There will be lots of opportunities for you to gain 'hands-on' experience of building and maintaining PCs and to get to grips with 'industry standard' software to create images, websites and games.
Where can I move on to after this course?
On successful completion of the course students can apply to join one of the BTEC Level 3 IT or Media courses offered at the College. Alternatively, students can move straight into employment.
