What qualifications do I need?
You need to have five GCSEs at Grade A* - C (including English Language) or a suitable Level 2 qualification in Childcare at mainly Merit level or equivalent. A successful interview and suitable references are also required.
What's involved?
Your study will include eleven mandatory units and a range of optional units including:
- Children and young people's development
- Communication skills
- Developing positive relationships
- Equality and diversity
- Professional practice in early years settings
- Promoting children and young people's health, welfare and well-being
You will also study a Functional Skill
How will I be studying?
You will spend some time in College as well as in a work placement. Class work is a combination of lectures, practical activities, discussions and tutorials.
Work placements will take place in a range of settings which may include private nurseries, nursery schools, primary schools, children's centres, special schools and family placements. Work placements are usually arranged by the College and involve alternating one week in college and one week in placement.
Where can I move on to after this course?
This qualification allows you to work unsupervised or in a supervisory capacity with children in a range of settings and creates opportunities for travel and working abroad with children. Alternatively you could progress on to Higher Education.
