What’s involved?

The BTEC Higher National programme units are designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required in Early Years. The HND course is a 16 unit qualification, there are 9 mandatory units and the other units are made up from optional units.

The assessment of BTEC Higher National qualifications is criterion-referenced and centres are required to assess learners’ evidence against published learning outcomes and assessment criteria. All units will be individually graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. To achieve a pass grade for the unit learners must meet the assessment criteria set out in the specifications.

This gives transparency to the assessment process and provides for the establishment of national standards for each qualification.

How will I be studying?

You will spend two days in college and one day in placement each week if you hold a Level 3 qualification appropriate to the sector. You may be required to undertake two days a week in placement if you do not hold a related Level 3 qualification.

There will be blocks of placement hours to accommodate the requirements of placement.

What about assessments?

There are no exams. The course units are assessed by means of a range of assessment methods including essays, presentations and portfolios of skills and competences demonstrated at work placement. Evidence from your placement will provide assessment of your abilities for your Professional Practice.
