This is a nationally recognised motor vehicle qualification that provides the theory and practical requirements for Motor Vehicle Technicians. It emphasises the need to understand the theory and the practical aspects of all components on modern Motor Vehicles.

What qualifications do I need?

  • Recognised current full Level 2 Motor Vehicle Maintenance certificate/diploma or equivalent, or
  • Proven trade experience with evidence of training
  • All applicants will be required to have a successful interview

What's involved?

  • Diagnostic principles behind fault finding on Engine Systems, Chassis Systems, Auxilliary Electrical Systems and Transmission systems of modern vehicles
  • Practical experience and assessment in diagnosing on the above systems
  • Customer Service unit to increase kowledge of MV trade

How will I be studying?

Practical training on all aspects of motor vehicles engineering including: Engine Technology, Transmission Systems, Fuel and Exhaust Systems including Fuel Injection Technology, Steering and Suspension, Electronic Ignition and Engine Management Systems, Vehicle Performance Testing, Fault Diagnosis and Diesel Fuel Systems.

The course is a mixture of practical and theory work which makes use of the College's modern and well equipped workshops. You will also have access to the College's advanced automotive diagnostic centre. Theory work is structured to complement the practical work and includes a variety of different learning experiences.

Where can I move on to after this course?

On successful completion of the Level 3 qualification you can progress through to Higher Education.  Alternatively you can find employment in the Motor Industry and use the qualification as a Technical Certificate for the Advanced Apprenticeship.  Level 3 is a valuable qualification for those wishing to progress into a management role in the future.
