This course would suit those who wish to progress onto a degree course in a variety of disciplines including humanities, social sciences, physiotherapy, nursing and teaching. The qualification is accepted by Admissions Tutors in Colleges and Universities.

What qualifications do I need?

  • Applicants will need to have Literacy at Level 2
  • Numeracy at Level 2 is desirable though not a requirement for the Access Diploma, although it may be a requirement for some Higher Education courses.

What's involved?

  • Core Skills to preapre for study at Higher Education: study skills, Information Technology and numeracy
  • GCSE equivalent Maths and English is available for those who may need them
  • Students will study three main option modules from the following: Biology, Sociology, Psychology, Literary Studies, Health Studies.

How will I be studying?

The course will introduce learners to the types of assessment formats that would be met at university: academic essay, seminar presentations, laboratory work, scientific reports, research and exams.

Learners will complete an assessment for each unit studied through individual study/group work. These will be graded and full feedback given with each marked assignment.

Where can I move on to after this course?

Students can progress to Level 4 study typically at university/Open University or HE courses at colleges.

Where students have chosen to delay or not to take up university places they have typically improved their employment through promotion or change of career. 

 Please note that not all subjects are available at both campuses, so in some instances it may be necessary for a student to travel to a different campus to enable them to study a subject of their choice.
