The programme is for those who are working in an accounting environment and wish to gain a recognised accountancy qualification to support their work experience.

What are the entry requirements?

If you have just begun working within an accounting environment you can commence at Level 2 providing you have a good standard of literacy and numeracy.  You will need to have a successful interview where your attitude, attributes and behaviour will be assessed.  A liking for working with numbers and ability to demonstrate the potential  for developing good communication skills is essential. 

If you have worked in an accounting environment for some time and have 5 GCSEs grade A - C and an excellent working knowledge of accounting double entry, it is possible to commence at Level 3.

You will need to be in full-time work and attend day release at college.

Learners will be asked to declare any criminal convictions, bankruptcy or county court judgements at the time of registration onto the accountancy qualification.

What does the Apprenticeship cover?

Level 2 covers the recording of day to day accounting transactions through to trial balance, computerised accounting using SAGE, some basic costing and working effectively in accounting and finance.

Level 3 covers production of final accounts for internal use, further costing and decision making, VAT, cash management, professional ethics and spreadsheets.

Level 2 Apprenticeship - learners will be required to complete functional skills English and Maths at Level 1

How long does it take?

One year per level.

How is the course assessed?

Each unit is assessed by computer based exam.

There are five exams at Level 2 and seven exams at Level 3.

What will I achieve and where do I go next?

On successful completion of the Apprenticeship you will achieve:

At Level 2 a Certificate in Accounting

At Level 3 a Level 3 Diploma in Accounting

(these are both nationally recognised accounting qualifications) and relevant work experience.

On successful completion of the Level 2 programme you can progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Accounting or the stand alone Level 3 Diploma in Accounting or into the following job roles: Trainee Accountant, Trainee Accounts Technician.

On completion of the Level 3 programme you can progress onto the Level 4 Diploma in Accounting or professional qualifications such as CIMA, ACCA (Chartered Association of Certified Accountants), CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accounting) ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants) or into job roles such as account manager.
